A Magical World of 6-10-Year-Olds: Reflections from Project Day

Imagine a world filled only with 6-10 year-olds—what a beautiful place it would be! That’s exactly the thought that crossed my mind on Project Day at Chisel Montessori School. The children, with their quiet grace and confidence, left us all in awe. They stood in front of every parent, presenting their topics with such precision and elegance. It was a sight that filled my heart with pride.

What amazed me most was the calm enthusiasm radiating from each child. There was no sign of fear or anxiety, no trembling voices or hesitant words. They had mastered the art of hiding those emotions so naturally that I found myself marveling at their poise.

In each group, an older child led the way—gently encouraging the younger ones to speak, patiently waiting for their turn to contribute. This quiet display of leadership, where every child had their moment to shine, was truly commendable. It reminded me of the Montessori philosophy: “Repetition leads to perfection.” And indeed, I saw it unfold before my eyes.

The presentations began at 9 a.m., and as the morning progressed, the magic of repetition took over. By 10:30 a.m., I noticed something remarkable. The children, who had repeated their parts multiple times, were now presenting with newfound confidence. They could answer questions from parents, relate to the concepts they had learned, and explain everything with clarity. It was as if, through the act of repeating, they had unlocked a deeper understanding.

What I had studied theoretically about children in the second plane of development became clear to me in practice. I witnessed firsthand their boundless energy, creativity, and potential. This is the age when children crave to be heard, to share everything they’ve learned, and to express themselves freely. Project Day offered them that opportunity, and they embraced it fully.

For me, as a teacher, it was a golden opportunity to observe each child’s unique potential. I could see their strengths and the areas where they might need a little more support. This insight will help me focus on nurturing their positive traits while guiding them in areas where they need to grow.

Project Day at Chisel Montessori School wasn’t just a day of presentations; it was a glimpse into a world where children are given the space to explore, express, and grow. And in that world, led by the confident voices of 6-10 year-olds, I found a place that felt like the best one to live in.
